Okay, this as a dumb yet informative announcement:

I honestly learn more kanji from trying to parse ridiculously cute/well-drawn/deliciously aaaangsty/EFFYESMYOTP j-fen fancomics than I do, from, y'know a decently organized course of study. Which is sad, but probably not that surprising. .__.

On that note:

Uki, my S80 fan-love, why on earth do you use the more obscure kanji for relatively common words? I spent 5 minutes staring at one panel, until I made the discovery that... this was an alternate for 戦い. Acceptable because there are definite nuances there (I think 闘い is more figurative? Against nature, against rivals, whereas 戦い seems to be actual war/fighting, but don't take my word for it) but I nearly beat my head against the wall when I found out, mostly because, FML, I already knew it from 戦闘. Orz. And then there was the fiasco with 所為, which confused me to no end: I tried to think about it from the Chinese, failed miserably, was on the verge of reaching for a dictionary when I hit it after going through all the readings in my head. (It's "sei," if you're wondering. Used in the sentence, "Omae no sei ja ne-." After, y'know what looks to be a first kill sort of situation. Yes I am dumb like a brick. D|)

Brrr I cannot believe that school starts so soon.

SO. T-the concert was unspeakably awesome, she seems so incredibly nice in person and also hearing her talk about each of the songs was like. FWAAAAH ♥ and the first of the new album songs she did? "Antebellum" aaahhh. We got to see the co-writer for that, Alex Wong, who is also rather multi-talented-ish and provided the male vocals in that tract, I think. (Also a NorCal guy originally, who moved to Brooklyn? I think.)

I now own a copy of Inland Territory with Vienna Teng's signature. :DDD

though I was a super awkward fan as expected but. AHHHHHH ♥ ♥ ♥

So apparently, trying to talk classmates into remembering why they love their (my, our) major sparks a renewed sense of love for the subject. (Despite the considerable pain of reading spectrograms, I might add.)

It seems that spending 15 minutes relaying the discussion wax_feathers and I had about voice onset time in Korean will do that to a person. Waaaah, I've retrieved that feeling of having the best major ever. <333333 (Am now also contemplating putting up a sign declaring my room to be a "Refuge of Rhoticity," since, y'know, Californian Standard in the midst of Bostonian r-dropping, not to mention the application of the Beijing retroflex lateral diminutive amongst all these Taiwanese-American kids. I mean. I love you guys. xD)

I also now have a button thingy that says "I ♥ lɪŋgwɪstɪks," rightfully won through IPA bingo, bwahahah.

If you can't find me on chat applications these days, it is likely because of practices for Pan-Asian Cultural show + leftover midterms. Sob.

This just in: rushing to finish papers the day they are due makes people hungry. And squinty from staring at words for too long. :(

Also the squirrels on this campus have seriously like, become more boldly maniacal. I EXPECT YOU TO MOVE OFF THE SIDEWALK WHEN I GET CLOSER not like. Stay there, sob sob. Small friiightening animals.

We've also suffered a lot of SUPRAIZ rain this week, which generally makes me unhappy as then things are wet. I totally almost slipped and died twice on the way to breakfast, which for me is like 50 feet from my dorm exit.

Otherwise life is okay! And I think, sadly, I will be caught up on Supernatural soon. The power of marathons and Jensen Ackles' cheekbones, I tell you.

Uhhh pre~tty sure everyone already knows that I am back from China, so this is now a LEAVING FOR THE EAST COAST post. Lololol at the idea of "regular updates."

On the short list of things I will miss includes: PEOPLE, proper sunshine, wide streets, desert plants, real food, and frozen yogurt places.

So, I haven't posted for more than a month. xD This is probably problematic, ahahah. I'm going to be going to the airport in like two hours, so goodbye CA, and the Pacific Time Zone.

A month ago, I stood outside my dorm, in the late afternoon, looking at the landscape and had one of those random poetic moments: the trees, weighed down by the snow, turned a once familiar setting into something altogether strange, yet wondrous in its own way, deserving a moment of awe. How beautiful, I thought for a moment, before I ran for the door before I could freeze my fingers off.

Today was more of the same, except this time I stood in my own backyard, looking out into the park (we're on a hill, you see). And of course it just rained for like two days straight, so everything locked into the ground, curling in from the dryness took the chance to shoot right up, blossoming into friendly patches of green over everything. It was nice. I think I'll really miss it.






PS: everyone hope that my plane doesn't crash, waaah D:
